A new standard for renewable energy and energy security in South Wales
Parc Solar Canewydd is a landmark solar and battery storage project in Gowerton, Swansea. This greenfield scheme will generate 43.8 GWh of renewable energy annually, powering 14,000+ homes and offsetting 8,000+ tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. Co-located with a 46 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the project spans 190 acres and is expected to start producing clean energy in 2026, following planning consent in Q4 2024.
Parc Solar Canewydd supports the Welsh Government’s target to meet 100% of electricity demand from renewable sources by 2035. In addition, the project’s design allows for continued agricultural production through sheep grazing among solar panels, and safeguards local businesses, ensuring economic and environmental benefits coexist.
Aligned with the UK Government’s net zero pledge and Kajima’s ambition to develop 3.5GW of renewable energy projects across Europe within five years, this project exemplifies our commitment to climate resilience and community impact. Through its BESS component, the project will also contribute towards the UK’s energy security by helping alleviate grid network constraints that could, for example, lead to potential future blackouts.
Parc Solar Canewydd was sold at Ready-to-Build stage in 2025 to Infinis Solar Developments Limited.
