Powering retail with locally generated renewable energy.
Hymon, the Polish rooftop solar company majority owned by Kajima Partnerships and Griffin Capital Partnerships, has rolled out solar installations at more than 300 Netto supermarkets across Poland. Rather than relying on grid power, Netto’s stores now produce electricity on their own rooftops, creating a network of clean energy generation across a wide network of retail locations.
Delivering the programme was complex. Every store had different technical requirements, and installations had to be completed while the stores were open and operational. To overcome this challenge, Hymon created a repeatable model that coordinated design, delivery, and installation, allowing efficient delivery while keeping disruption to a minimum.
In 2025, more than 33,000 solar panels across Netto’s network generated over 12,000 MWh of electricity. Around 90% of that energy was used directly by Netto stores, helping reduce reliance on externally supplied power and demonstrating how large real estate portfolios can be used to create a local energy network.
